Ada Vale
A lament for a family that set out west and did not arrive. Written as the theme of Emeline, it carries the film's central ache — the distance between the home you leave and the home you're promised — and plays against the memory of a thirteen-year-old girl who was the only one of her family to finish the journey.
Ada Vale
A lullaby sung over a child who will not finish the journey. Written for the long hunger on the Owyhee, its title carries two endings at once — the trail's, and a life's. Of the twelve who set out, the little ones were the first the road took.
Ada Vale is the virtual artist of Emeline — a studio persona created for the film's vocal performances, not a real singer. The voice is synthesized; the writing, arrangement and production are my own.
